Stroboscopic Vision as a Dynamic Sensory Reweighting Alternative to the Sensory Organization Test

چکیده
Context : The sensory organization test (SOT) is a standard for quantifying dependence via sway-referenced conditions (sway-referenced support and vision [SRV]). However, the SOT limited to expensive equipment. Thus, practical version of more commonly employed—the clinical integration in balance; however, it fails induce postural instability level SRV. Objective Determine if Stroboscopic (SV), characterized by intermittent visual blocking, may provide an alternative SRV assessing stability. Design Descriptive laboratory study. Setting Research laboratory. Participants Eighteen participants (9 males, 9 females; age = 22.1 [2.1] y, height 169.8 [8.5] cm, weight 66.5 [10.6] kg). Intervention completed conditions, then repeated 2 5 with SV created specialized eyewear. Main Outcome Measures A repeated-measures analysis variance was on time-to-boundary metrics center-of-pressure excursion anteroposterior mediolateral directions order determine difference between full-vision, SV, conditions. Results Postural stability either or significantly worse than full ( P < .05), no significant > .05). Limits agreement revealed similar effects except unstable surface time-to-boundary. Conclusions In general, found degree that induced SRV, indicating could be portable relatively inexpensive assessment reweighting.

Balancing sensory inputs: Sensory reweighting of ankle proprioception and vision during a bipedal posture task.
During multisensory integration, it has been proposed that the central nervous system (CNS) assigns a weight to each sensory input through a process called sensory reweighting. The outcome of this integration process is a single percept that is used to control posture. The main objective of this study was to determine the interaction between ankle proprioception and vision during sensory integr...

Sensory reweighting dynamics in human postural control.
Healthy humans control balance during stance by using an active feedback mechanism that generates corrective torque based on a combination of movement and orientation cues from visual, vestibular, and proprioceptive systems. Previous studies found that the contribution of each of these sensory systems changes depending on perturbations applied during stance and on environmental conditions. The ...

To investigate sensory reweighting as a fundamental property of sensor fusion during standing, we probed postural control with simultaneous rotations of the visual scene and surface of support. Nineteen subjects were presented with pseudo-random pitch rotations of visual scene and platform at the ankle to test for amplitude dependencies in the following conditions: low amplitude vision: high am...

The goals of this study were to collect normative data on asymptomatic, ambulatory, community-dwelling adults on a standard diagnostic test of vestibular function in balance and to determine if their responses differ significantly from younger adults. Subjects were divided into four age groups, 18-44 years (young), 45-69 years (middle-aged), 70-79 (old), and 80-89 (elderly). Subjects were seen ...
